They are both MPEG-2 transport streams. M2T is generally camera footage and M2TS is generally BluRay.

Instead of trying to import camera files or BluRay files directly, put them through the appropriate DVD Architect video and audio templates in Vegas first.

I don't have Vegas. I produce.m2t file when I use Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and .m2ts file when I use Cyberlink PowerDirector 11. Unforunately, DAS 5 crashes when I use .m2ts.

There may be custom settings in Cyberlink you can disable to get the files to open in DVDA, which is a companion authoring program to Vegas.
