DVD Architect Locks up

I am using DVD Architect and find when I am trying to navigate through an Mpg2 file to place chapter markers etc the program locks up. Usually while playing. It will happen using the keyboard or mouse. It will continue to play - not responding to controls at all. The odd time it will eventually stop after up to a minute or so. Usually it remains locked up. You cannot close the program or do anything else. CTL-ALT-DEL brings up task manager and this releases the program. You do not actually have to terminate it. Just bringing task manager up seems to break the lock up.

I am using W2000 SP4 AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 512M RAM. Previous build on a slower machine did not do this. Both v5 and v6 react same way. There is very little else on the machine. Capture done with Pinnacle moviebox USB and have to use Pinnacle Studio 9 to use Moviebox - no other programs can connect to it. Have DVDFab & DVD Shrink installed. They do not seem to be the problem.

Any ideas? I have re-installed the system many times and always the same results. DVD Architect is unusable. Have seen this now on 2 computers.

Thanks all.

Are you also having that 'locking up' problem with mpg-files from Vegas or only with the ones you captured through the Pinnacle moviebox USB ( which i think only captures in mpeg?)

The problem only happens in DVDA - Vegas is OK. I only use MPEG2 files - which Moviebox captures (you are correct). I edit and render the files in Vegas.

Being a computer consultant myself, I find it frustrating and very time consuming to constantly have to troubleshoot software and hardware incompatibilities which seem to be more prevalent now than ever.

I have found these (and other forums) to be extremely valuable as they provide a wealth of information from people who actually use the software in real world situations.

As always, any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Just found your other thread on the problems with the audio from the pinnacle moviebox usb and think the advice given there will save you a lot of time over finding a solution.

"I only buy canopus now. Costs more but always works great."

I can only confirm that and say i have never looked back again.

I had forgotten about the other audio out-of-sync thread. I found that I can capture witht the pinnacle moviebox ok. I can edit the resulting file in Vegas ok - as long as you do not edit the sound in any external program. Once you do, the sync is gone. If you don't edit in an external program and leave it alone, the DVD sync after burning is always ok. I saw so much flack about out of sync sound from so many products that I came to the conclusion that it was a problem common to this level of hardware/software. I think you have to have pro studio equipment/software dedicated to the task to get consistantly dependable results.

I know of a guy who's business is putting together PC's with very specific hardware/software for A/V editing only. If you change any component from memory to video etc. warranty is void and cannot guarantee resuts. Seems that's just how flakey A/V editing is at the PC level. Dissapointing but we do tend to forget there is a reason pro studio equipment costs what it does. Today's PC's are little more that glorified web browsers ;-) - but then that's what most people use them for.

Thanks for your input Rudi.
