DVD Architect Pro 5 slow to burn?

DVD Architect Pro 5.0b (build 180) has worked wonderfully for almost two years on this same computer. It has burned standard DVDs in about 15 or 20 minutes, set to burn at 8x. Yesterday, it took an hour and 45 minutes to burn a standard DVD. Speed was still set to 8x.

Wondering if my burner had problems, I burned the same file set using Roxio. That burn took 7 minutes. I guess the burner is OK.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, and got a batch of Windows updates over the weekend. Think one of them might have toasted something in DVDA 5?

You can try uninstalling DVDA, cleaning the registry and reinstalling it. This may fix the problem but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

The laser diode in a burner only has a limited life. It could be that yours is now getting marginal, in which case it is time to get a new one.

Just to ensure you're comparing apples to apples -- you're only counting the actual burn time when timing DVD Architect, right? You're not including transcoding time also when comparing it to Roxio's burn time, are you?

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I compared actual burn time with DVDA and Roxio. DVDA has always been pretty speedy, before.

The target burn speed in DVDA was set to 8x, I can't tell what it achieved. Roxio had a target burn speed of 16x, but only achieved 6.77x.
