I've got a stand-alone DVD that has an AC3 2.0 track on it for audio. It's encoded at 256Kbps.
The problem is that there's only audio in the left channel. The right channel is silent. I would like to correct this issue.
I ripped the AC3 from the disc using DVD Decrypter. I then searched around looking for a way to transcode the AC3, taking the left channel audio and adding it to the right channel as well as creating a new 2.0 AC3 that I could use to re-author the disc.
I failed at that after trying many different things with BeSweet, Azid and AC3Machine. I'm not sure I ever figured out all the parameters.
I also attemped to transcode the 2.0 stream to a 1.0 stream. I also failed at that.
I then took the AC3 file and decoded it to 48KHz WAV. I converted that WAV file to a one channel Mono file and used it to re-author the disc, keeping the audio as LPCM, so as to not corrupt the audio any further by re-encoding it into lossy AC3.
Due to size limitations on the disc, I was not able to keep the WAV as a stereo file. Just too big to fit.
I re-authored the disc in DVD Architect 2.0 using the original video (ripped via DVD Decrypter) and the new mono audio file. In the preview mode of DVD Architect everything seems ok. Mono audio comes from both speakers.
I burned a test disc (DVD-RW) and played in on the entertainment center DVD player to make sure everything was ok. However, now I have audio only coming from the left channel. So after many hours, I'm right back where I started.
Anyone have any ideas of what I did wrong? I'm thinking the best way to fix this is to transcode the AC3, but I wasn't able to figure out how to do it, so if anyone is more familiar with this, I'd appreciate the help. I want to avoid re-encoding the AC3, as that just further corrupts the audio.
