DVD Burn Failure

Hello,

New Sony user here. Just finished editing my first vegas 8 project. Also just finished my dvd architect project and tried to burn to dvd+rw. Prepare went fine, however the burn failed after 10 seconds repeatedly. The message I'm getting is:

The drive has been reset, most likely by another application or due to SCSI / IDE configuration problem.

Details:
'SFMMCX'-(17)

-'HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N B103'-(0)

The drive state has changed.
A power-on reset or bus-reset has occurred.

Have you burned successfully to DVD +RW before, in other software? What happens if you try a +R, or -R disc, instead of a re-writable..

There are many rearson why something has gone wrong. Start of by eleminating the media (disc), then the software, etc until you find the likely culprit.

I burned a data disc on a Verbatim dvd+rw using roxio creator 9.
Prior to that I tried burning my dvd architect project using the same disc, burn failed
I used a Memorex dvd+r and it did burn.
I used a Sony dvd-r and it did burn also.
Are there known issues with DVD Architect not liking some discs over others? Or is it the burner not liking it? My burner is supposed to be compatible with all disc formats.

Is DMA enabled for your burner?
In XP, this setting is a bit hard to find, but for some drives is not enabled by default.
I only bring this up because I have come across it more than once in the past.

How do you enable DMA?

I have a DVD+RW disc that I use to make a copy of my project to be sure everything is ok (no typos in the media generators, etc.). When the movie has copied onto the DVD+RW, I remove it from the comptuer and put it in my DVD player connected to my TV to be sure everything is to my liking. If so, then I select "yes" for "burn another?" and make however many DVD+R discs I need.

Lately, I have noticed if I make this test movie on the DVD+RW on my desktop it plays fine on the laptop but will not play at all on my DVD player. I may get a message that says "check disc" or "no disc."

Any ideas? I wondered if it had something to do with the format of the disc but it's the same disc I've been using the past few weeks and I'm wondering if somehow a record setting has been changed causing it to not play on the DVD player/TV.

It's in Device Manager. Go to the IDE/ATAPI Controllers if that's what you have and click Advanced Properties. If not enabled, check "Use DMA if Possible."

I was having trouble with both a hard drive and a burner on one channel and discovered that DMA for some reason was not enabled for that IDE channel.

None of this applies if you are on SATA.

I checked, "Use DMA if Possible" is enabled on all channels. I tried another brand of dvd+rw and it still is not working. I thought it might be incompatible with certain brands of dvd, but I don't think so.

Since the preparation went fine, you can always burn your dvd with another program, like Nero etc.
To avoid playback problems on dvd players, you should give this a try: turn down the burn speed to 4, even if it can burn at higher speeds.
Make sure you have no other dvd burning software running in background.

I successfully burned a dvd+rw using another software installed on my computer. That is the only other program installed on my computer other than vegas.

Imade sure no other programs were running and still can't burn a dvd+rw in DVD Arcitect. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to use dvd architect the way it was inteneded to be used.

Can anybody help me????

Is there a firmware update available for your DVD burner from the manufacturer? If so, apply that.

Open a support case with Sony and let them tell you if there are known issues with your burner & the software.

I checked and I do have the latest firmware available. I just did open a support case with Sony. Waiting on a reply. Thanks.....

I see you have Roxio installed on your computer. Roxio in the past is known not to get along well with other burning software. Did you remove Roxio and see if that makes a difference? What is the mfgr of you DVD burner? Which version of DVD architect are you using Studio, Pro? If you are using the Pro version go to Options > Preferences and put a check in "Skip drive database; Auto detect drive capabilities" and see if that makes a difference. Download a trial copytoDVD and see if that works.

If you are using the Pro version go to Options > Preferences and put a check in "Skip drive database; Auto detect drive capabilities"

That's available on Studio version also.

Unistalled Roxio and still no burn for dvd+rw. I'm using dvd achitect pro ver 4.5b. Already checked "Skip drive database; Auto detect drive capabilities" and unchecked. My burner is an LG model no:

HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N

I have an HP GSA-H30L and I can't burn on DVD+RW as well.

Also using dvd achitect pro ver 4.5b.

I have Nero 7 latest update installed on Vista Home Premium.

I have no solution and am waiting for Sony to address my problem since I can't even get into the lead-in portion before things lock up (I''ve been waiting for about a month now for some kind of solution), but I'd say it is looking like LG drives are having issues.

Mine is a LG GSA-H62L drive.

At the rate Sony is going I am not holding out any hope for a fix.
