DVD burner compatibility

Does Sony publish a list of DVD burners that are compatible with VMS and DVDA? My burner works fine with Pinnacle Studio (heresy, I know) and Nero. VMS and DVDA don't even recognize that my computer has a burner. So, I guess I am going to have to go buy a new burner. Would like to know in advance that it will be compatible, however.

What sort of drive have you got now? Maybe someone here can confirm or deny the compatibility problem before you go and spend the $$.

The release notes for v1 of DVDA list specific drives, the release notes for v2 say "DVD Architect software has been tested with a wide range of drives and should work with most DVD recordable drives."

When I click on "properties" under the DVD burner, my present burner is identified as "TSST corp CD/DVDW TS-H552U"

That is as much as I can tell you.

P.S. I think it is manufactured by Samsung

Your drive is branded as sumsung, but made by TDK.

As for why it isn't recognised by the program, sorry, I can't help.

I can't find anything specific to your problem on the web, but you could try going into Device Manager, uninstalling the drive and letting Windows reinstall it when you reboot. You could also use Nero to check the firmware version - the current one is US07.

Thanks to all that shared ideas.

I updated the burner firmware to US07 and that did not help. Did not hurt but did not help.

I updated the DVDA Studio software to version 3.0b (Build 93) and, walla, we have success. Don't know, of course, if 3.0b alone without the firmware update would have worked but at this point I really don't care.
