DVD Burners

I have a choice between two external DVD burners: a Sony DRX-530 and a TDK 840G. Both are the same price. Will either one work with Vegas+DVD?
My research indicates both are good burners and revealed no significant negatives for either. Have any of you had any really bad experiences with either one? Your help as always will be appreciated.

Perhaps I'm out of line here, I own neither, but based on what I've read (and my experience with Sony products), I'd go with the Sony burner.

I've had a Sony DRU-500A int burner for about 1.5yrs (yes it's one of the original 2.4x units that came out back then) & it's given no problems at all.
I've burned +R, -R , +RW's w/it probably about 100 more or less.
Like Curmudgeon said, it's the Sony name that usually imparts excellent quality & Support.
I also have a Sony PD150 DVCAM & it suffered a broken tape eject button in the fall just BEFORE (days) the warranty expired. It was shipped/repaired & returned to me all in 7-8days.

Let us not forget Pioneer, I have an A05 that has been doing everthing I had it do flawlessly. I don't plan to buy another unless this one breaks or the Pioneer folks come out with a dual layer burner. But I'll stick with Pioneer.

Go witht he SONY. from what I have read on other news sites is SONY is definitely releasing a firmware upgrade so that the drive can write dual layer dvds. Definitely a much wiser investment.

The TDK drive is a rebadged Plextor 708A, a very highly rated 8x burner. Before you go with the Sony, take a look at the reviews here:

After reading that recent review, jump to the home page of www.cdrinfo.com for a review of the Sony 530 with the firmware upgrade. If I read those reviews correctly, the Plextor has it all over the Sony.

Plextor has always had exceptional optical drives. I spent a small fortune to get an old Ultraplex 32 Ultra SCSI CD-ROM about six years ago so I could rip my CDs quickly. They're very good drives. Pioneer also generally makes exceptional drives. You can't go wrong with either Pioneer or Plextor, or their rebadged OEM equivalents.
