DVD Burning Quest

I was so happy last night. I just purchased a Sony DRU-51a from Frys and installed it. All looked well. I set up to burn my very first DVD (a one hour 51 min project). Prepared and Burned the DVD on a Fuji disk at 1x. When it was done, I placed it in my Sony home stereo and watched the DVD on my TV. The DVD didn't play! But that's ok, becaues I was very sleepy and put the thing in upside down. So I righted it and now it plays very "jittery." Like there is a fielding issue or something. I placed it in my computer and the computer wouldn't play it as the computer was apparently too slow. In my other computer, it played smoother, but the picture quality isn't very good, like a medium quality mpg1. Am I experience compatability issues, or is there something else I might be missing.

I have a Sony DRU-510a (is that the same burner you have?) and have had no problems burning DVD's. The process I use is to first render using the MPEG-2 template in Vegas 4, then build and burn the DVD disk (DVD + disk) in MovieFactory using default templates. The quality of picture and sound is outstanding. Sounds like what you are experiencing is related to a bit level issue (i.e. the player can't handle the high bit rate). Sorry, not much help here.

I would have went with the Pioneer A-06 over the Sony drive (there have been some problems with the sony drives) Anyways it sounds like more of a media/compatability problem than a burner problem. I would first go to www.dvdrhelp.com and look up your DVD player to make sure it can play DVD-R's. If it can, then try burning on some diffrent brands of media to see if that clears up the problem.

Different brand media and change the bit rate. Got it! Thanks gang! I'll give it a go tonight or tomorrow night (depending on tonight's shoot). -mjr
