DVD Content Creation Compression?

Question:

(Since I have the demo version, I cannot this for myself.)

If/when I create DVD content, will DVD Architect automatically compress the content as necessary to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD disk?

Example: If it's a 130 minute project, would it compress the video quality to, say, 39% or so of original DV quality but while rendering a 159 minute project may render at 43%?

If not, what safeguards are there to ensure your content all fits on one disk?

Thanks!

No. You are the one in charge of making sure that the files will fit. Generally you can change the bite rate settings from within Vegas before you render and get a good idea of the what the file size will be. There are many different formulas around for you to use to do your bit budgeting. But in any case, 120 - 160 minutes of video on a DVD is stretching it. I would say a more realistic figure would be 90 minutes.

If you go to the Optimize DVD screen, there is a slider and bit-rate text box where you can adjust the final bitrate. Above that is an estimated size that will change dynamically as you enter new numbers or slide the slider. You could adjust this until you get below 100%. My understanding is that it uses VBR and this number is the AVERAGE. You may also need to go to Options - Preferences - Burning tab and change the "Space available" from 3.95G to 4.7G.

If you did it this way, DVDA would need to encode the project so you would need to give it an AVI file instead of an MPEG file if you want the best quality.

Got it.

Thank you very much!
