I made a few DVD but I got a strange problem : they DO NOT autostart on SONY DVD player.

if the DVD start point is a menu I have to push on 'menu' or 'root menu' on my remote and if I add an introductory video sequence, I have to push on 'play' for something to happens

on other DVD players (hardware or software) the DVDs autostart as expected but not the the SONY one... :(

any idea ?
TIA, Pyer

Is there a purple star on your topmost menu or intro media?

Also note that Sonys and Pioneer DVD players were some of the last to make themselves compatible with home-burned DVDs. If your player is over 5 years old, that could be the case -- though almost all players can play even home-burneds now. But it might be worth trying on a friend's DVD player.

A couple of things to try if that doesn't work:

1) Put your DVD in your computer's disc drive. Does the computer auto-launch the DVD software? If so, you know the disc is properly authored.

2) If it seems to work in your computer but not in your DVD player, it could just be a faulty disc. Cheaper brands, like Memorex, can produce very inconsistent quality discs. Verbatim discs, on the other hand, don't cost much more but provide much more consistent quality.

@musicvid: yes the purple star is present in the right place

@Steve: my SONY DVD player is a RDR-HX725 of 2006. on my PC, Windows auto-launch the software the DVD Player when I insert the disc into the drive and on my other DVD player, the DVD autostart as expected. the problem seems to be with the RDR-HX725... BTW, the disc is a SONY DVD-RW

I would say that the fact that the disc is an RW is the problem.

Pressed, commercials DVDs are produced one way. Once-writable DVDs are produced another way, and rewritables use yet another method to store their data. Many DVD players have trouble playing RWs.

I would expect you'll have no problems if you use a DVD-R disc.
