PAL SD DV can only contain 720x576 pixels. You can change the pixel aspect ratio so that on playback the pixels are stretched horizontally to fill the 16:9 frame.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply.Whats the required aspect ratio to fill the screen? Will the picture be skewed? Is it possible to make a HD 1080 file and burn to DVD?
Thanks

Derm askes: Is it possible to make a HD 1080 file and burn to DVD?

The answer is no but maybe yes. If you want to be able "play" the disc in a DVD player then the answer is no. If you want to burn your HD project to a 4.7GB DVD disc you can but it won't play in your DVD player but only in some Blu-ray players and then it's only going to be about (i'm not to sure about this" 7 minutes'

PAL DVD is 720x576. If you set your Pixel Aspect Ratio to 1.457 then you will get 16x9 wide screen and this can still be played on a DVD player.

You can render your project to 720p or 1080i and keep it as a movie file but it won't be able to be copied/inserted into DVD format unless you convert to 720x576 (PAL DVD). DVD players are only able to play this format.

Thanks for your help LightAds.So this means that the commercial PAL DVDs that I watch on widescreen TV are 720x576 but use the 1.457 aspect to fill the screen? This project has to go to DVD.

I think it is about 20 mins for an AVCHD disc on a 4.7GB DVD.
