DVD-R fails, but DVD+RW works on Sony DRX500ULX

I get this error after writing maybe a Gb or so onto a Memorex DVD-R at both 1x and 2x speeds. So far the Fujifilm DVD+RW's work great at 2.4x. The Sony DRX500ULX has gotten good reviews from many people so I am wandering what might be wrong.

Does anyone know anything about this. So far I have wasted a number of DVD-R's trying to make this work with DVD Architech 1.0c.

I use Verbatim DVD-R's with my Sony and not one bad one yet. I would have to say there is something wrong with the Memorex DVD's.

Is your firmware updated from the Sony support site? I have the internal version of your drive and am up to version "f." So far it plays back everything I throw at it.
