DVD won't burn

Please help me, I am desperate. I am on a very tight deadline and have recently purchased this software for the great "appeal" it had on how easy this was goiong to be.
I have a Sony DVD+R Double Layer burner.
I have been using DVD+R discs to burn to.
The movie I'm trying to export is merely jpgs (a photo montage with music)
The whole process goes smoothly but sometimes I'll get a "timed out" error message or it will say it has been successfully completed yet there is nothing on my DVD, or when I put into my DVD player the screen says "please check disc"
I am so frustrated and have been through about 20 DVD's. Any help would be soooooo greatly appreciated.
Aubrey

Forget trying to use DVDA to burn - if it didn't do it correctly the first time, then it's not going to do it right after 20+ tries. There are more problem reports of DVDA not being able to burn in this forum than any other type of problem.

Go to www.vso-software.com and download a copy of CopyToDVD - it has a 30 day fully functional free trial. Prepare your project with DVDA (which you've likely already done), but don't burn it. Launch CopyToDVD and point it at your VIDEO_TS.IFO file and click burn. If it burns for you, then you've got 30 days to spend the $40 on a key for it.

I'm in the process of doing this right now...thank you so much for your prompt response...I'm sure you'll know if it doesn't work! Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Funny how things work sometimes, eh?? :) --- Sony with Sony not compatible! Bah!

Okay, it didn't work.

It went through perfectly, acted like it worked, ejected and a nice voice came on that said it was complete but it is doing the same thing when I put into my DVD player.

The sick thing is, when I first got this software I made a short dummy video and exported it on my 2nd try. Since then it's been all down hill. And that video was even on a DVD-R.

Any more advice would be great.

Thanks.

You can try NERO. If that doesn't work, I would try reinstalling DVDA, because the source seems to be a problem.

However, other issues to keep in mind are, the type of media you are using and even the drive itself.

f you put the DVD back into your burner, can your computer read it? How old is the DVD player you are using? DVD players older than 2-3 years usually have serious issues reading +R media and some even have issues with -R.

After you prepare with DVDA, but before you burn, have you tried playing the resulting VIDEO_TS files using WinDVD, PowerDVD or similar software player? It might be useful to at least make sure that the files have been prepared correctly.

Bad, bad, bad.
I removed all program files and re-installed.
I opened my movie, tried to burn and got an error.
I downloaded Nero, as I had free software (I was unaware of this until I pulled my Sony DVD software box out) and installed Nero. All was well. It burned great. I played the disc through Roxio, it played but the music turned crappy about a minute into the video. I replayed a few times and the music turned crappy at different points.
Okay, so put in my DVD player. Would get a "disc error" message.
Went to Wal-Mart and bought new Sanyo DVD player, did not buy the cheapest one, bought one of the middle-priced range ones. I did realize my old DVD player is 2-3 years old, thus is why I bought new one.
It still did not play.
I am upset and confused as I have been in business for years, I used to use Adobe Premiere and only exported to VHS. Since then I have bought a new computer system, a DVD burner (had to keep up with the times) and it has been all shit since then.
Please, please more advice. Thanks so much everybody.

DId you new Sanyo player specifically say that it would play +R media?

Have you thought of trying -R media?

I checked the DVD player out:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2585837#long_descr

You are right... now why is this? I am so confused as to why I am told and I read that I should be using DVD+R discs and then THIS...Hmmmmm....
I have spent so much money on troubleshooting I am at my wits end!

It's my opinion (just my opinion) that +R disks can be more compatable with players than -R disks, *if* you burn the +R disk with a booktype setting of DVD-ROM; most players then cannot tell the difference between the +R disk and a commercially stamped disk (though there are still some differences which can potentially impact playability). In order to change the booktype though, your burner must support this ability (and I don't think your Sony burner supports this, but I could be wrong); then using a burning program like Nero you can select the option in Nero to change the booktype.

If you can't change the booktype, then -R media is generally going to be more playable; as a media its been around longer and so more players have support for this format.

It worked! Praise God above! :)

I went to Best Buy and bought Memorex DVD-R's. They worked. I put it into my Sanyo and it played BEAUTIFULLY.

Thank you so much for all your help and support. Maybe my hives will go away now! :)

Hi, ScottW,

Thank you for your advice about copyToDVD...... I too am having buring problems. I can't even make nero make a video disk correctly! copyToDVD worked like a champ.

Thank you for your advice elsewhere on this forum as I have found it usefull.

I have put in a request for technical support with Sony and have an assigned incedent number, so at least from one person they have a report. I cannot be the first.

This was on the 7th of February and I still have not heard anything back from them. I got an E-mail from them Friday inviting me to visit a web site and tell them how they did on the tech support. Hah! So I toldl them I had not received any support and rated them very unsatisfied on every item.
