DVDA 5.0 Blu-Ray 24p vdo Recompression Required ?

Pasapong wrote on 12/17/2012, 7:54 AM
Hi,

I am trying to find what the problem is. I render 24p avc video and audio with Sony templates for Blu-ray in Movie Studio Platinum 12. When I sent those files to DVD Architect Studio 5.0, it requires recompress on video due to "24p encoding is not supported in this product" (but it will recompress with the same 24p settings ??). Audio recompression is not required. The problem seems to be with video part only. I tried with short and long video files so file size does not seem to be the issue.

Please help me identify this issue and suggest me the solution. I have just decided to buy Movie Studio Platinum 12 Suite a few days ago. I just hope I do not need to buy more to solve this issue. Details of settings are provided below.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Movie Studio Platinum 12.0 (Build 576) 64-bit

Pixel aspect ratio = "1.0000 (Square)"
Frame rate = "23.976 (IVTC Film)"

Profile = High
Entropy coding = CABAC
Frame rate = 23.976 (IVTC Film)
Pixel aspect ratio = 1.0000
Bit rate (bps) = 16,000,000 (also tried 21,999,616)
Encode mode = Automatic (recommended)

Audio -> output format -> template "Sony Wave64 -> "48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM"
Format = PCM (uncompressed)
Sample rate (Hz) = 48,000
Bit depth = 16
Channels = Stereo

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DVD Architect Studio 5.0 (Build 161)

Audio defaults
- Audio format = PCM Stereo

After click "Make Blu-ray Disc", message pops up "....Video will be recompressed"
Info from "Optimize Disc"
Video 1 - Recompress = Required
- Reasons for required recompression = "24p encoding is not supported in this product"
(Recompress settings : Video format = From project, Use default bit rate = Yes, Bit Rate (Mbps) = 18.000, Aspect rati = 16:9, Resolution = 1920x1080, Frame rate = 23.976 progressive, Progressive = Yes)

If you go to the File men and select Properties, you'll see that you can modify some project properties -- however, you can't change the DVD frame rate from standard NTSC or PAL frame rates. In other words, you can't create a 24p DVD with DVD Architect Studio.

Thank you for your help. Currently, I am dealing with Blu-ray. File -> Properties, Disc format = Blu-ray Disc, I see 4 options in Frame rate : 29.970 interlaced, 25.000 interlaced, 24.000 progressive and 23.976 progressive. DVDA 5.0 seems to support 24p Blu-Ray as it shows in options. But I still don't understand why it still recompress 24p avc files (created with 24p blu-ray template in Move Studio) with another 24p encoding in DVDA.

I believe (not certain) that only VegasPro series can render a 24P video stream that can be taken directly to DVDAPro Architect for a Blu-ray 24P standard.

Studio series is a trimmed down set of features and capabilities.

Today, I tried to author and burn Blu-ray with those video files from Movie Studio with multiAVCHD 4.1 (freeware) successfully, with no re-encoding. I think the problem may be from DVDA 5.0.

I have just found a similar issue with 24p recompression of DVDA in this message.

I will try to contact technical support to find a solution for this issue. Hopefully I don't need to pay more for upgrade.

Your answer is here, in the last post which quotes a response from Sony Technical Support to the same question as yours.

Thank you for giving a big clue. Today, I tried only DVD Architect Pro 6.0 (Trial) and good news !!! all existing 24p avc files from Movie Studio Platinum 12 worked perfectly with no recompression at all. So I can confirm that the problem with 24p came from DVDA 5.0 itself.

Sad news is I cannot find the way to upgrade to only DVDA Pro 6.0. It seems that I may need to upgrade the whole package to Vegas pro, "Vegas Pro 12 Upgrade from Studio (Download) US $367.46", which is way beyond my budget. If anyone knows how to upgrade to only DVDA Pro 6.0, please feel free to let me know. Thank you. Or I may otherwise find other economical solutions to author 24p Blu-ray disc instead of using DVDA 5.0 with recompression required.

DVDA Pro 6 is bundled with Vegas Pro 12. There are some other advantages with DVDA Pro, such as 5.1 AC3.
You've missed some recent upgrade specials. Keep your eyes open for future offers.
