DVDA 5.0 build 150 won't recognize AC3

A few weeks ago, I successfully made a movie with Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite 11 trial version and sent it to DVDA 5.0 trial version to create a DVD with menus. I burned the DVD and everything was great.

Since then I've purchased the product and updated to Vegas build 247 and DVDA build 150. I also updated Sound Forge and Vocal Eraser. I have not installed any codec packs. I have allowed iTunes to update QuickTime to 7.7. I don't know if any of those updates are the source of my AC3 problem.

Now when I try to open that previously successful DVDA project I get an error saying: "An error occurred opening the media file" and it lists the AC3 file from the project.

If I create a new movie for DVD in Vegas it renders the mpg and AC3 files and sends it to DVDA to create a DVD with menus. DVDA opens and immediately displays a error message: "Warning" An error occurred while opening one or more files. The proper stream could not be found in the media file." The details button lists the AC3 file for the movie.

I submitted the problem on the Sony Creative Software Tech Support site, but I have not received and answer yet. I searched the knowledgebase for AC3 problems and found a message suggesting installing a trial version of Cinescore 1.0, but that knowledgebase message is very old and the link does not work. I'm suspicious of old advice anyway, it may no longer be relevant and installing something else may make the problem worse. Any suggestions?

Dumb question, but the AC3 file still exists in the path it did when it was functioning properly in DVD-A?

I just installed Build 150 and can confirm that it doesn't recognise AC3 files. I uninstalled b150 and reinstalled b128 and again AC3 files work fine.

Yes, the AC3 file is where it always was. It sounds like I'll have to uninstall build 150. I wonder if Sony Tech Support will get around to answering my question.

Whilst you're waiting for a reply from Sony Barbult, I recommend you uninstalling Build 150 and reverting to the earlier version. I suffered the same problems as you concerning this ac3 file not supported nonsense and reverted to the earlier version of DVDA with everything back to working as it should. Links etc (if needed) can be found towards the bottom of this thread......http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=773331&Replies=19

Thank you all for your advice and confirmation of my problem. I have uninstalled build 150 and reinstalled build 128 from my product CD. I no longer get any AC3 error when opening a project.

From here http://download.sonymediasoftware.com/current/

Scroll down the page and locate dvdastudio50.exe (119.2MB) for version 128.

I got a reply from Sony today. They say there is a known problem with AC3 in build 150 and they are working on a fix. They suggested using WAV or WMA audio or uninstalling and reinstalling build 128. They gave this link:
http://download.sonycreativesoftware.com/current/dvdastudio50.exe
I believe this is the same link that was referenced by Boy Atlantis.

Received exactly the same email this morning. If nothing else, it's good to receive confirmation that the error lies in the application itself and is not the fault of the end user.
