DVDA 5.2 insistes on recompressing AC3 5.1 file

Friend of mine asked me for help with his DVDA project. (he's got 5.2)

1.) He renders out a video in Vegas 10 to XDCAM 422 50Mbs mxf in stereo
2.) Makes new a 5.1 mix and renders the audio to .ac3. He used the standard studio template for simple DVD 5.1 448k (no AGC)
3.) Drops the MXF into DVDA
4.) Clears the PCM Stereo audio track
5.) Drops the 5.1 .ac3 file in it's place
6.) Wave forms draw out and all media previews fine.

Blu Ray project properties set for ac3 5.1 at 448k. Upon optimizing, DVDA insists on recompressing the .ac3 file that Vegas made. Changing project audio properties makes no difference.

Why is this happening? Is there a secret switch to force a no re compress command?

"He used the standard studio template"

That's the problem. The Dolby AC3 Studio template is noncompliant.

If you have Vegas Pro, use the Dolby Pro encoder with these settings instead:
-- Dialog Norm at -31
-- DRC Line and RF modes to None.

[EDITED FOR ACCURACY]

You nailed it!!

I would have thought for sure that Blu Ray supported a simple (and older) DVD AC3 spec.

Does DVDA support PCM 5.1? ( I see stereo only)

Thanks again!

It's not the spec at fault, the Studio AC3 encoder bugs have been acknowledged by Sony years ago. They just keep dropping off the radar.

Sorry about that, I spoke too quickly.
