DVDA Burning

Hey you experts, Can I soak up what you know about DVD burning??
I have a 2hr 4min AVI file rendered in Vegas 4.0 imported into DVDA.
The menus are done, and I prepared the file for burning.
Question, Why in the Optimize page does it read "99% of 3.95GB Media" on the throughput? especially if the DVD disks are 4.7GB??
I pulled down the compression bar to 3.2 from 8. Should I go farther?
Reason being, the DVD burns for about 3 minutes and then gets errors.
I have a new Sony DRU500 DVDRW+- and I'm using SONY DVDR- media.
Is my file just too damn big? Do I need to compress more?
Please advise, your help is appreciated.
Also, I attempted this 3 times, twice the "disk error", once it read "DR1.exec error"
Thanks any help is appreciated.

Go to Options | Preferences and select the Burning tab. There is a drop-down to set your media size to 4.7 GB. The installation default seems to be 3.95, for some reason.

Make sure your DRU500 has the latest firmware. See your documentation for the Sony site address. You can download a self-extracting, self-installing firmware update for the drive.

Even though I'm not an expert, I have worked through those two problems. But frankly it sounds like you are getting an under-run error. You should make sure no other programs are running. Search this forum for "dropped frames;" There are tons of great suggestions on helping your computer respond quickly and not get interrupted/distracted. Burning requires the same sort of attention span that capturing does, so those suggestions will likely help you a lot.

Also, I recommend using a DVD-R/W until you get reliable burns; saves you a few bucks on coasters.

Good luck,
-Don
