DVDA crawls when handling VBR-encoded MPEGs

Scenario: 2-hour movie captured from VHS and converted to a VBR MPEG by TMPGEnc

Observation: The MPEG imports into DVDA just fine. The problem (if it is indeed a problem) comes when attempting to add chapter marks: scrolling through the MPEG takes forever. DVDA takes ages to "catch up" to where I want to go, making a process that should take no more than 10-15 minutes take five times as long to complete.

I realize that I may be showing off my ignorance and "newbiness" here, but I wanted to know if this is basically normal behavior for VBR-encoded files, or if DVDA might somehow be at fault here. (I've noticed that CBR-encoded files are a breeze to scroll through.) If this is normal behavior, I'll gladly crawl back under my rock and live with it. If it's not, then maybe BillyBoy can add this to his list of pet peeves. ;-)

I've not noticed this as a problem with VBR stuff encoded by either MainConcept or CCE (and with CCE I've used TMPGenc to convert the elementary stream to a program stream). Is it possible that you've simply got a badly fragmented file?

Last time I did chapters, it wasn't even a 10-15 minute job.
