Say BoBo, didn't you costar with Ronald Reagan in Bedtime for Bonzo?

Is that the best insult you could come up with? You're slipping.

Do you see Microsoft saying what's going to be included in the next version of Windows?

Yes.

Do you see Adobe say what will be in the next version of Photoshop?

Yes.

For that matter do you see GM or Ford posting pictures of what their 2005 models will look like?

Yes, 2005 and beyond. Do you not read car magazines?

While it is a long standing policy for SF/Sony not to comment on future plans, there is really no compelling reason why they can't and several compelling reasons why they should.

Say softcorps, isn't it curious you use bold just like John Cline did and you just happened to use his user name awhile back because you just happend to be in his hotel room or so you claimed. And darn if you aren't critical of everything I say just like he was. Imagine that. I wonder what the odds are. <wink>

Softcorps wrote on 11/26/2003, 11:33 PM
There is nothing curious about it and the odds are zero. This is not the first time you have accused me of being John Cline. I've made no secret that he is a friend of mine, but what I say here are my words, not his. Also, John does not hold exclusive rights to using bold text to quote someone.

In the couple of months that I've been a member of this forum, I've wondered why it was that you seem to be the only one here that gets into arguments with other users. You think that calling them liars, as you just did to me, might be one really good reason? Take your conspiracy theory somewhere else, as we say here in the South, "that dog don't hunt."

After reading these posts, it looks obvious that DVD-A can't meet my needs of looping, playing all videos, returning to submenus, anti-aliasing, or defining an end action for a video. It appears I wasted my money (on the +DVD option) with no timeline for an upgrade. My question to those of you who, like me, find that these limitations make DVD-A unusable is, "What software do I purchase to make professional-quality output?"

vonhosen wrote on 12/1/2003, 1:20 PM
I wouldn't say you've wasted your money. For one you got yourself a Dolby 5.1 encoder in the price (which would have cost you $1000 alone a little while ago & still does in some places). Also you are in the upgrade chain when the next version of DVD-A comes out (If past history is anything to go by you'll be looked after come upgrade time.)

As for the other part of your post...

If you are using PC's and can't afford circa $20K for Sonic Scenarist then there is no definitive prosumer DVD package. All have their own feature sets & problems at various prices.

I am currently using Sonic's ReelDVD & Pinnacle's Impression Pro.

Others that seem to be favoured here include
Ulead's DVD Workshop
DVDlab

For Mac
DVD Studio Pro

Suggest you trawl the sites of these for feature sets & their forums for problems.
Softcorps wrote on 12/1/2003, 1:30 PM
Well, there's always DVDLab for $99, it will do all the things you want. (www.mediachance.com)

There are other options as well in the $500 range. Sonic DVDit! PE, ReelDVD or Adobe Encore DVD are some. (DVDit!'s user interface is horrible and Encore is a bit buggy. ReelDVD is pretty mature.) Ulead has a new version of DVD Workshop coming out relatively soon that is big update from their current offering.

IMO, DVD Architect is fine for making simple DVDs of home movies, but the next version is going to have to have some major new features to make it attractive to people that want to get a bit more creative. Let's hope that why it's taking so long for a new version to show up.

Say BB, are you related to Fat Bastard?

BTW... I'll bet even Bonzo was smart enough to understand Microsoft's plans for Longhorn.

My experience with DVD-A is it is quick and easy to use. I didn't read all the posts in this thread but if you are looking for a sophisticated authoring program then you pretty well have to go with Impression, Sonic ReelDVD or "maybe" (crossing my fingers) the new Ulead DVD authoring program might be okay. I am a bit dumb and really struggle with ReelDVD. I have to get one of the resident graphic artists to make my menus for me because Photoshop is not an eay program to learn if one has time and I truly don't with my duties as a Safety Officer, video boy and Instructional Designer/Program Developer. I wish I could learn more about things such as Photoshop but.... anyway, DVD-A is great if you just want to make nice DVDs to meet basic needs. I use it whenver possible and almost exclusively for the little side jobs I do out of my basement. My two cents.

I think DVD-A UNFAIRLY gets criticized, especially from the peanut galley that's occupied by the likes of bobo and other zero contributers to the forum who's only talent is looking for fault in others. But that's life. You can see the glass as half full or half empty. I prefer the former.

Sure DVD-A should have end actions. It probably will in the next release. Till then you still can do some very good DVD's with it, if you're creative. Some of us are, some of you obviously not. Right bobo?

bobojones wrote on 12/4/2003, 11:27 AM
Right BB. Some of us are creative and you aren't. I've seen your website and it looks like it was designed by Ms. Mary's third grade class.

Speak not ill of Ms. Mary, she's my sister.
BillyBoy wrote on 12/4/2003, 1:05 PM
LOL!

It wasn't "designed" at all. Just a quick and dirty dump to put the tutorials somewhere.

You want to see "designed" wait till I get about 300 MB up early next year.

Besides, some third and forth graders, unlike grumpy wanna-be types are very creative and clever. You should see what the ten year old down the street can do. I taught him. <wink>
bobojones wrote on 12/6/2003, 4:23 PM
God help us all if you taught him how to make those butt-ugly 3D buttons.

Incoherent fools like bobjones that post to forums such as this and never answer a question or in any way try to help anybody and only try to stir things up need to get a life and likely psychological help.
Softcorps wrote on 12/6/2003, 7:37 PM
I have a question you will be able to answer BillyBoy. What exactly do you do in video production? Weddings, commercials, documentaries, something else? In all the messages I've read from you, I found out that you used to be an accountant, but I have never heard you mention having video post production clients or doing shoots. Are you in the "trenches" every day or are you what would be considered a knowledgeable hobbyist?

We're well aware of SPOT's credentials, for example, and people tend to respect him and what he has to say because we know of his body of work. I'm not asking this to be confrontational, but I'd just like to know what are your credentials? What makes you qualified to answer questions around here? Is there any place we can see examples of your work?

Wow, what a peeing contest! I use this forum for help whenever I get a chance because it is great to be able to use the free tips and techniques others have worked out. I can't contribute much to the DVD-A knowledge pool but tip my hat to those clever folks who have the time to experiment and learn then share their ideas.

My video credentials are Director/Camera for 22 years, video tape editor editor 1983 - 1996 and NLE editor, part time, 1996 - present. For work I make instructional videos for Mining and refineries, :30 commercials airing on CFRN/CTV, and assist with documentaries. I have done six weddings for friends since 1981.

oops, I forgot...so far 5,500 DVDs replicated from DVD-A authored DVD-R masters. It is a nice program for simple stuff.

> Incoherent fools like bobjones

oh really? Let's revisit some of the empty claptrap oratory BillyBoy has posted to these Forums:

BB on the Pioneer A06: "Its popular because it was the first to use multiple formats of media."

CAN YOU SAY "SONY"?

BB on Internet Explorer: "You can't get 16 million colors to reproduce on a web browser"

ROTFLMAO!! WHERE DOES HE COME UP WITH THIS NONSENSE?

BB on Web Authoring: "most people authoring web pages (professionally) stay within a so-called 'web safe' palette of just 216 colors or minor varations from that base."

WRONG.

BB on Hyperthreading: "Hyperthreading (merely marketing buzz to describe a process)"

LOLOLOL!!! BS.

BB on Sputnik, the "first space object"

SORRY BB, WRONG AGAIN.

The list is endless....no one on these lists spews it like BillyBunkem.

My Plextor burner simply cannot use DVD-A so obviously unless they release something soon, I'm going to learn Encore. I've already made a perfectly working DVD using Encore, I just hate Adobe's interface and always will, but at least it works.
