DVDA installation problems

Paulo Ribeiro wrote on 10/17/2009, 3:05 PM
A few days ago i downloaded ACID Xpress 7 and installed it as a way to test it but, in the end of the installation process i got this message:
- Registration requires administrator privilegies. Please run ACID Xpress 7 from an administrator account to complete registration.

At that time i ignored this message and uninstalled ACID.

Today i had a problem with DVD Architect, suddenlly i had no sound. I thought maybe this was a problem related to a corrupt or missing program file so, i decided to reinstall DVDA.

I had to uninstall it and only then i could reinstall it. But then, suddenlly i got again this message:
- Registration requires administrator privilegies. Please run DVD Architect from an administrator account to complete registration.

This is not possible. I am the administrator and sole user of my computer. My account has administrator privilegies. I even tryed to do it runing Windows in Safe Mode, starting as the Administrator but i allways get that message. This didn't hapened when i first installed the program.

Can someone help me, please?

Thank you in advance for your attention.

1) Disable UAC (User Account Control) in Windows.
2) No audio? Did you recently upgrade Quicktime? You need to roll back to a previous version. Lots of discussion in the Pro forum (do a search).

System restore?

System restore? Maybe so.

I'll give it a try but, why do i get this messages only with Sony software installations? It makes you wonder doesn't it?

Ok, got it !

No need for system restore.

First of all i completelly unistalled DVDA and cleaned all Registry entries related to it. Secondlly i started by installing DVDA 4.5 and only then i updated to DVDA 5.0.

After this process i run DVDA and... again no sound.

Because musicvid told me about issues related to QT i decided to reinstall it and check all its preferences. Everything seemed to be ok. However when i tried to play a mov file i had no sound. So, i decided to went to the Windows Volume Control Panel and noticed that the Wave fader was down so, obviouslly i couldn't get any sound when playing a mov file, the same happened with DVDA. This made me also conclude that DVDA uses the Windows audio engine to output its projects sound.

This issue brings me back to a request i made some time ago. Why do DVDA uses the Windows audio engine and not another one ? We should have the option of selecting the audio engine we want, like in Vegas. It should have an Audio Device tab in the Preferences panel.

I don't use the Windows audio engine, i use a dedicated hardware (RME Fireface) with an ASIO driver wich gives me a much lower latency (5ms), an so, i should have the option to use it, again like in Vegas.

Well, glad you got your problems sorted.
I don't speak for Sony, but I think they would tell you that since the audio in DVDA is just a stereo preview, in effect a player, it uses the Windows mapper just like any other player.

Hello musicvid,

I can understand what you stated, but i cannot agree with that criteria.

Windows mapper introduces too many latency in the process. Also, it cannot deliver a proper reproduction, since i notice lots of cuts and pops in the sound.

In the end the dvd works fine, but i don't consider this previewing method professional since what you get is not what you heard before.

Anyway, making possible on DVDA to select the audio driver wouldn't be a big problem, i supose. But it would certainlly make it more professional, don't you think ? ;-)

By the time my projects get to DVDA, the audio has been mixed and rendered in Vegas. That's why I don't pay attention to it in DVDA, except to see that it loaded.
