DVDA Pro 5.0b (build 180) won't burn DVD

I have a relatively new Lenovo laptop (system #2) with which I have been burning DVDs and CDs. I most likely have added new software, but I don't have any idea what might have affected the laptop and caused the following problem.

When I try to burn a DVD with DVDA, I am now getting an error message that says that the drive is busy processing a command. I captured the details in 2 .jpg files. I can send them to anyone who wishes to see them.

I have disabled all other programs (like Roxio) from the startup processes that I think could affect the drive. I am able to successfully burn audio CDs with Roxio, so I believe the drive is functional.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Can you successfully create a DVD Prepared File to your hard drive?

Yes, with no problem. I can successfully burn the created project on my desktop computer, so I know all that is working.

I also uninstalled and reinstalled DVDA with no change--still have the same problem.

Anybody out there with some ideas?

I would really appreciate any help that I can get on this one.

Thanks.

If you can create Prepared Files, then the program is doing everything it should.

Some software must be blocking its access to your disc burner. (Nero is notorious for that.)

Rather than fighting with it (and you usually can't win these fights anyway) the easiest solution is just to use your burner software (Nero?) to burn a playable disc that includes the Prepared Files VIDEO_TS folder.

Or, better yet, use the free download ImgBurn to burn your VIDEO_TS folder to a disc. It not burns very effectively, but it can be set to verify the disc afterward (which virtually guarantees it will play on a standalone DVD player.)

Thanks for your reply.

Well, I'm glad that DVA is preparing the files correctly, but I'm not sure I agree with you that DVA is thusly doing everything that it is supposed to. I think that it should burn the DVDs correctly as well.

I thought that I could use my desktop computer to burn, but today it is experiencing a problem, too. Yesterday, when I burned a DVD, the desktop hung up on burning the lead-out. Had to completely shut the computer down to get it to stop whatever loop it was in. Today, after about 5 min burning the lead-out, it came up with an error message very similar to what my laptop is doing.

In the details, the message references Module f:\source\sonic3\release\dvdarcchitect\5.0\cddrvs\sfcd\mmc.cpp
Line 1976
The drive is not ready.
The drive is not ready, an operation is in progress.

Again, this came up after the main data was burned, while it was burning the lead-out.

In looking back at the error message from the laptop, I find that the module is different, but the "drive not ready" is the same. That module is:
f:\source\sonic3\release\dvdarchitect\5.0\cddrvs\sfcd\sfmmcx.cpp Line 2144

Can you make any sense of this?

I haven't tried it yet, but I am now hoping that my Roxio software will be able to burn DVDs from the file set.

Do you have Roxio on both computers? The reference to Sonic suggests to me that that is the problem software.

Good suggestion, but... If you notice the path name is: ...sonic3\release\dvdarchitect\5.0...

That tells me that DVD Architect has something from Sonic embedded in it.

But removing Roxio software is a good idea for testing. I did modify my startup stuff in msconfig to stop all the Roxio modules from loading on startup.

As I'm writing this, my desktop just completed a successful burn of a DVD without a problem, where the last two times it hung up burning the lead-out and I had to hit the reset button to get out of that loop.
