DVDA reports incorrect disc size - insists on re-render

Okay, I have 4 - 20 minute MPEG System Streams (includes MPEG audio). I am trying to make a simple DVD by using the 4 MPEG files for the video. In Vegas, I rendered 4 matching AC3 files (I wanted to up the bit rate and not have DVDA do it). So in DVDA, for each of my movie files, I have an MPEG System Stream for the video and the matching AC3 file for audio. DVDA reports the disk at 13.4G!!!! If I remove just the AC3 files from the disk (leaving the audio blank empty for each of the 4), the size comes back down to 4.2G. I have had this to me several times in DVDA and I don't know what is tripping it up. The AC3 files only total 250MB, but DVDA sees a difference of 9G when I add them. Any idea how to get around this bug? I have DVDA 1.0C.

While I haven't tried myself the method is suppose to be render to the SPECIAL DVD-A NTSC VIDEO only template then render audio as AC3 with the SAME file name (exact) except for file extension and DVD-A is suppose to be smart enough to use the AC3 audio.

Why don't you let DVDA render to AC3? I don't understand your reasoning for not doing it that way.

I am taking files from a Replay TV unit which produces MPEG System streams which have both audio and video combined. Since DVDA won't take Elemental streams, I can't demux the file into separate files. I can just let DVDA render the audio but I usually kick the audio up to 224kbps. Also, I have some concerns with DVDA's rendering of AC3. It may be fine but my receiver doesn't see the audio as true 2 channel DD when I do it that way. The sound plays but it doesn't seem to be detected as true DD.

When you go into the Optimize DVD dialog (File | Optimize DVD...), what are the estimated sizes of the different media assets? How do these sizes change when the AC-3 files are removed?

Since, your symptoms sound similar to a bug that was fixed in one of our updates, I'd suggest uninstalling and reinstalling DVD Architect 1.0c.
