It should be usable with anything, including Premier, Ulead, Sound Forge, ACID, Windows Movie Maker, etc.

I'll guess though that by default, if you use the one-click thingie from VMS 7 to go to DVDAS that it will still launch DVDAS 4 instead of 4.5. However, no one says you have to use the one-click thingie.

On the other hand, as far as i know, the only way to get DVDAS 4.5 is to puchase the package including VMS 8, so i'm not sure why you would be worried about whether it works with version 7 or not.

It shouldn't work, different versions & different serial numbers to activate.
If it did work then going to help and click on the search for updates while in version 4 will lookup
and display the latest update to the program your running.

You don't have to pay the full price for VMS 8 Platinum, if you have version 7 you can order the retail box taking the upgrade method when ordering, much less expensive and worth it.

Standard 8 upgrade:

And if you order on or before this Friday (8/31) you can get the upgrade at a discount. Link provided in THIS thread.

Andy, to answer your question though, since VMS and DVDAS are independant applications, you could theoretically render in VMS7 and create disc contents with DVDAS4.5 or render in VMS8 and use DVDAS4.0. But as mentioned you have to buy VMS8 to get 4.5.

I have VMS Platium v6. Can I upgrade directly to v8 or do I have to do v7 first?

Thanks , Billy

No need for the intermediate upgrade. SONY is nice that way. You can upgrade straight from version 1 to version 8 for the same price.

Thanks. That answers it for me. I have VMS 7 Platinum and didn't know if I could update DVDAS to 4.5b. Now I know I need to upgrade the whole package first - which I can't afford right now.

Thanks Kelly . That is what I thought but was not really sure.

Thanks for the link MSmart.........I think :/ I followed the link and saw the discount, which was greatly appreciated. It said $44.95 Movie Studio Platinum (Packaged), shipping $5.00 'Total Charge 49.95' Total means total to me, but maybe not to Sony. After I entered my pay info, on the next to last page of the form it said 'Subtotal $44.95' Shipping and Handling $20.00, Total $64.95 :O Any idea what happened to 'Total Charge $44.95'???????? Thanks. Cin
PS. When I go back to page 1 of 5, I see that under 'Country' it has changed to 'USA Minor Outlying Is' instead of US. I tried several times with the same result.

Cin, are you in the States? If so, I can't explain the extra charges.

What version are you upgrading from? Did you see THIS recent thread. You may be able to cancel your order and redo it with just the download version.

Thanks for the reply MSmart. I do live in the good ole USofA :) I don't understand it either. I'm upgrading from VMS 6.0. Any help would be appreciated. Take care. Cin

Thanks for your help 'RSmart' :) They had my country as UM, not US :O I don't even know where that is! Now that I ordered the boxed version, is there a way to download it and use it, or do I have to be patient (which I'm not good at when it comes to new software) until it arrives. Thanks again. Cin

You can download the demo version and play with it to your heart's content. You won't be able to register and activate it until your serial number arrives in the package though.
