Neither does mine. Talked to Support today. Loading all new XP updates tonight to see if that helps. Plus, removing all other USB/Firewire connections except the DVD drive. Lastly, load the latest Sony update as well. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Problem has also been referred to the technical group.

Just reported to Support that my Sony external DVD drive is now working. I had to load all current XP/Sony driver updates. My device is connected to a USB 2.0 port. I also have a firewire external HD hooked up as well. Burned two DVD's last night successfully!

Dear seanybear--thanks for posting this discussion--it seems to have also solved my problem. I had a similar problem with an external DRX-500ul and dvd architech would not recognize my dvd drive even after I restarted per help and then uninstalling/reinstalling dvd arch--XP pro and other software did recognize the drx-500. I originally set the DRX-500ul up on usb 2 and had new firmware & update to dvd arch 1a--and dvd arch wouldn't recognize--I assume since I had several other devices on usb 2?? After reading the discussion you started, I decided to switch the DRX500ul to firewire since I didn't have any devices on firewire and I needed to use 3 other USB 2 ports for other devices. DVD arch now recognizes the DRX-500ul and it now seems to be working fine with dvd arch. Thanks

Never tried via USB 2.0, but mine worked with Firewire connection from day one (firmware 1.0g).
