DVDA to Nero 6 warnings....

drguitar001 wrote on 12/9/2004, 11:13 AM
I bought Vegas Movie Studio and it comes bundled with DVD Architect (who knows what version...). Any way, when I finish authoring the DVD with DVDA, I then can burn my DVD. So far al is right with the world. THe DVD burns and plays on a home set top player. If I try to take the same Video files that DVDA rendered and put them into Nero 6, I get a few warnings that have me concerned. One warning says something like "DVD files allocation resort allocation failed" and another warnig too. I ignore the warnings and still burn the DVD. Even with the warnings, the DVD plays fine on both my computer and set top player.

Does anyone else get these warnings? Should I be concerned? I never got warnings with Ulead DVD Movie Factory.

Any help would be a great help,

Mike

You must still be using DVD Architect 1. Click on Help / About to be sure. DVDA-1 makes VOB files that are slightly bigger than the standard size and Nero will complain. They're only warnings though, not errors, so they will still work fine most of the time. DVDA-2 doesn't have this problem.

Since he's using Vegas Movie Studio, then he has DVD Architect Studio, rather than DVD Architect 1.0 (though feature-wise, the programs are basically the same).

Interestingly, Sony folks here have sworn up and down that DVD Architect Studio is based on DVD Architect 2.0 code rather than DVD Architect 1.0 code. But if that's so, why does it still have this allocation error like DVDA 1.0 did?

Not doubting, necessarily...I just find it odd.

I've burned DVDA 2 projects with Nero and not received errors. The file size issue with DVDA 1.0 resulted in an error from Nero related to the file size not being a multiple of 2 (or something) - the error being reported here sounds different than that.

I have the same issue. I am using DVDA 1 with Vegas 4. I did not have this issue with other authoring programs. My nero 6 error messages are:

File size not a multiple of a logical block size (2 kb)
DVD-files reallocation failed
Non critical error but DVD may not work

I go ahead and burn and it seems okay. But I have not tested extensively yet. It does not appear to be a big issue. I would, however, prefer not to get the error. Is this due to the larger VOB files that DVDA does?

Anyone talk to Ahead to see if there is a fix.

Dreg, Thanks for the update. So is the nero 6 reinstall the solution for the problem with DVD 1? I have installed the latest version of nero (but I did not do the clean sweep) and still have the issue. This reinstall seems to be most tech support group's standby solution when they don't know what the problem is.

I think I am getting DVD-2 for Christmas. If you could let us know your results that would be great. I would prefer not to do the uninstall if i don't have to!

Far as I can tell the DVD Studio app is based on DVDA 1.0. The files that are created have the same problem with the file size being incorrect. Try copying the files off the disc back to your computer. Windows won't copy any of the files that have been split at the 1gig split point. The smaller files will copy but not the 1gig files.

Thanks, I'm hoping for DVDA2 for Christmas. Looks like my issue is a DVDA1 issue

Just so you know there are some serious issues with DVDA 2.0 also! I'm fighting with those currently. The file that was rendered/prepared and attempted to burn in DVDA 2.0b gets just over half way done and then gives the error message that the disc is dirty or corrupted. Evidently many others are having these same problems. I hope Sony can come up with a solution for all this mess because DVDA is just too expensive to not work properly as it is for many.

I had to resurrect this thread because I am using DVD Architect Studio 2.0 Build 22 (came with Vegas Movie Studio 4.0) and I am having the same problem. Click here for some screenshots:

and

The second screenshots show that DVDA is definitely making the "wrong" size .vob files. What a bummer!!! I don't think this software is based on the 2.0 version after all. Sony, do you read these threads?

As you can see I have to re-author in DVD-Shrink to get things going again. Incidentally, your DVD will play fine if you ignore the error message BUT forget about ripping your DVD-R ever again if you ever need to make a copy.

Hope this helps anyone with the same problem once and for all. Just use DVD-Shrink after you prepare in DVDA. It doesn't take that long at all.
