DVDA2.0 project has no audio

I am using Vegas 5.0 to render my DV project into MainConcept Mpeg2. I get perfect sound with the rendered mpeg file, but when I use DVDA2.0 to prepare the file to DVD I get a message that the audio track on my file will have to be compressed. I prepares the DVD but it does not capture any of the sound from my file. I have even checked the audio ts folder and there are no files in there. What am I doing wrong? Would appreciate your help.

There isn't supposed to be anything in that folder. AUDIO_TS is not used for most DVD-video discs, but authoring programs include it for compatability. The audio is in the same file(s) as the video -- the VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder.

What other indication do you have that there's no audio on your disc? If it just plain doesn't play any audio in your DVD player, how about in a software based player? Does it play okay when you preview your project within DVD Architect?

For future reference, the default template in Vegas is just meant for MPEG2 files to watch on your computer, not for ones destined for DVDs. It includes the audio (as MPEG) in the same file as the video. On the other hand, DVD Architect prefers the audio be PCM or AC3 format, and also prefers it be in a separate file. That's why it had to re-encode your audio. DVDA takes those two files and combines them into VOB files. When you feed it a single MPEG2 file, it has to rip the file apart, enccode the audio as AC3 or PCM, and then stitch it all back together again. Takes longer and your quality may take a hit.

Yes, the Vegas and/or DVDA manual should mention this. Johnmeyer will be along shortly with a link to a thread regarding the preferred workflow. ;-)
