DVDA2 seizes and DVD writer disappears !

Just doing a 'test' project on DVDA2 .

Project all ready to Burn. I hit the 'Make DVD' button and nothing happens for around 20 seconds (app 'seizes up'). I can then do the "prepare" stage OK, but for the "Burn', there is no writing deice shown.

What seems to be happening is that in that 20 second seizure, my DVD writer actually gets wiped right out of my system, and no longer even shows in XP "Disk Manmagement" ! The drive is there and working prior to running DVDA2, and works just fine in other applications.

System is XP SP2 , Celeron 1G1, 512MB, Sony DRX-700UL on Firewire. DVDA2.0b. Appreciate any suggestions.

Formally report the problem to Sony (click on the support link above) and meanwhile, use something like Nero or CopyToDVD to do your burning. CopyToDVD has a 30 day free trail (fully functional) so you can be sure it works with your configuration.

I've a system that when I burn RW media on the burner, when DVDA ejects the media it actually causes the drive to be ejected (so to speak) as if it was a removable device; not a problem with -R media, only RW.

I'm only running the demo so far , so dunno if the errror reporting form will work...

First I'll try the suggestion in the FAQ, to initiate the MAKE DVD *without* blank media loaded. And double check latest writer firmware.

OK, the 'no media in drive' solved the drive-disappearing problem. Now I get up to "Retrieving media info. Please wait." .... and wait, and wait, and wait.....

If I 'Cancel' out of dialogue this takes about 30 secs. I get an error message about a missing mesage (?) , and the application seems to recover. However my writer has been kicked out of Windows again.

Guess I need to try different media next. ( now SKC DVD-R 4G7)
