Hi,
I just picked up a jvc hm-dh40000u unit. overall I would say its a good unit... I've downloaded the trial version of vegas 6. this version sees the jvc unit... but I can not capture or print to it.... I read somewhere that the 30000 (30k) unit works...

I'm wondering if any one out there has this unit and has got it to work???

TIA

I have the 4000 and it does work. However I believe that the trial version of V6 will not capture and print DVHS.

Yes, it will operate D-VHS, S-VHS, VHS, VHS-ET, and VHS-C.
Its all in your manual. There is also a switch to switch it manually or it will switch automatically. It will only do HDV through the "I" link and it will only allow capturing in the 720P mode.

I am really interested in the ' JVC DVHS HM-DH40000U Player' !!
Is it also possible to print a 5.1 DD soundtrack onto the recorder along with the HD video footage? If so my wish would finally come true!: Playing (Projecting) HD video with 5.1 audio' ;-)).

I have vegas 5.

Because you cant (import) playback a renderd ac3 file with vegas.

I guess the steps would be,

1. Make 5 audio tracks in vegas.
2. Pan track 1 to left, track 2 to right, track 3 to centre, 4 to Rsurround 5 to L surround e.t.c.
3. Insert th the correct (mono) audio files to separate tracks.
4. Then print to tape??

I guess not , because print tot tape option is "DV PCM Stereo only' ! ;-((

So I guess wait for Blue ray or HDDVD?? and make the HD+5.1 movie with DVD Architect 5 ;-)

Thanks for any reply

Check out the MY-HD 130 card, digitalconnection.com. It might do what you want. Not sure if its stereo AC3 or 5.1 PTT but it does send it out as 5.1 to a 5.1 amplifier.
John Cline is the expert on this card so you might contact him and I believe he also has a 4000U.

I reviewed the specs on this at B&H and it is impressive. I've also been considering a Canopus ADVC300 for converting old VHS tapes to DV, and connecting a good quality external video monitor. This seems to be a viable and less expensive alternative. Does anyone know if this unit will function in a similar way to the ADVC300 or ADVC110, especially regarding passthru from the PC Firewire out into the JVC unit, and out the SVideo connector to a video Monitor?
