Thanks John! this has all the makings of a low budget video:
"I took those cartridges out to my shop, put on rubber gloves, and started drilling holes. I put about ten holes in each cartridge, but not a drop of ink."
I think it was the idea of you, wearing rubber gloves, scurrying off to your "shop" armed with the DRILL! - maybe some green light and dusk lighting + CO2 . . . wooooahhh!! Scary image - John?!?
"Now, lil cartridge, this wont hurt much . . mwwwuahahahaha!"
"Now, lil cartridge, this wont hurt much . . mwwwuahahahaha!"
I think it's time to redo the song name from "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" to "Mad Englishmen like Grazie".
Or, in Grazie's case, the Doctor Who novel.
:-)
"My guru buddy purchases a new inkjet printer when the ink cartriges are empty (no brand in particular) thus saving about 10 bucks."Wow, that seems awfully wasteful and not very ecologically responsible. A full set of Epson ink cartridges are $59 at Costco.
"awfully wasteful " well, not really because the product is already manufactured, shipped and waiting to be "pushed" out the door. The down side is the the manufacturer is counting on highly profitable ink cartriges to be bought. But, yes, the old printers does consume one's space.
Even Samsung color laser printers can be had for less than the cost of toner replacement, even taking into account that they are "starter toners" with half the capacity of new refills.
Well, I'm sufficiently embarrassed to have started manually refilling my color toner cartridges, costing me 75% less than factory new, with indistinguishable output.
Found several kits on Fleabay, worked perfectly.
Still, I'm dreaming of the day when I will unpack my first color laser with print quality as good as the best inkjets....
I've been using a Samsung CLP600N color laser printer for some 9 months now. Excellent quality, was $400 on sale at Staples. Price couldn't be beat for a networked printer, hell I remember when it was more than that just for a network card for an HP Laser. So far I've only had to replace the black toner cartridge [around $100]. The color cartridges are holding up very well.
On the CIS system you bought, how do you find the quality of the ink? I've been considering a CIS like the Niagara, but have been put off by their price (and all the ink choices - dye, various pigment gneerations)...
I see no difference when compared to the oem ink. What does make a difference is the Taiyo Yuden Watershield discs. The printing on them is absolutely gorgeous.
