Echo Gina 3G and Vegas

I have an Echo Gina 3G. When I first installed it earlier this year and played around with it in Vegas 5b for a few hours, it worked fine. I have not had time to do much editing since then and have since installed Vegas 6. I am now starting a project and am having major issues with the Echo Gina in Vegas. Within a few minutes of editing, the sound cuts out while playing an event and a high pitch tone is heard on the speakers for a few seconds. Vegas then does not permit any events to be played after that. A dialogue box comes up with the message "An error occurred while starting playback. A device is not available." Vegas then becomes unstable and locked up. This happens in both Vegas 5b and 6b. I have tried several things to rectify the issue including reseating the card, replugging the cable from the card to the breakout box, replugging the speaker cables, reinstalling the sound card driver. I have tried various settings in the Echo Console and within Vegas as far as Purewave, Echo ASIO WDM and Classic wave driver. WindowsXP claims the sound card is working properly, though no programs can find it after it locks up, not even the Echo console. Only a reboot resolves the issue temporarily. The sound card seems to have worked alright up to now with other programs, though Windows Media Player works inconsistently with it. Is anyone else experiencing issues with the Echo Gina3G and Vegas? Any suggestions on what might be causing the problem?

My specs are: ASUS P4S533, P4 2.0, 1 gb RAM, WindowsXP HE, Matrox P650, onboard ethernet, 5 hard drives, Maxtor Ultra ATA 133 IDE Controller, two Samsung 173Ps. various usb and PS/2 devices, M-Audio LX4 speakers.

Note: In the last few weeks, the speakers were emitting a constant hum with periodic crackling and thumping sounds. When I disconnected the speakers from the computer, the hum was still there, so I assumed this was a separate issue from the sound card. The hum stopped occasionally and has now stopped altogether. Though I still get sound in the fronts, centre and surrounds, it appears that the woofer is not creating any bass sounds now and the green light on the back of the woorfer no longer lights up. I mention the speakers because I'm not sure whether the sound card and speaker issues are separate or related. The problem with the speakers is not correlated with Vegas.

I don't have the Gina 3G but did have the Gina 24 and it was dreadful. Echo being unable to resolve my issues I purchased a Digital Audio Labs Carddeluxe and it is great. I was eyeing the 3G but will steer away from it. I wish you luck. Bob Kroeger

Does your mobo have an Intel chipset? Echo products only work with an Intel CPU/Intel chipset combo. For AMD CPUs I think they say VIA chipsets, not sure.

I know from experience that an Echo MIA won't work with an Intel CPU/ATI chipset.
