edit details and spreadsheets

hello

i am working on a bigger project, and i have to edit based on hundrets of preselected scenes selected by the client formated in a spreadsheet (name of video file and timecode in/out)

now i thougt it would be cool to reformat the spreadsheet, that i can paste the info into the "edit details window", and save myself a lot of work cutting scenes by hand.

i used the posibility a lot to edit markers and regions in excel or openoffice in the past - which works quite well:
open edit details window->show markers or regions-> copy all(select left upper corner above 1)->paste into spreadsheet->edit time, name, add new markers/regions->copy and paste again in "edit details window->markers or regions are updated in project - nice!

so i thought this could also work for events, i can copy the event information to a spreadsheet, but when i paste the spreadsheet info again to the edit details window - all events are gone! ( i tried it wit OO Calc ).
so it seems this does not work so easily like with markers or regions.

any thoughts about how to translate a spredsheet info of scenes to a vegas project?
(i have the IN/OUT time and the CLIP NAME. The start of the clip in the timeline could be easily calculated in the spreadshead application)
or is there any script out there, or any workaround with EDls or XML ?

thanx

arbory, this is a real shot in the dark (IOW, I don't know what I am talking about ;-) ) but try saving an existing small project as an EDL text file and see if it would be possible to reformat the spreadsheet data in a way that it could be merged into the EDL.

thanks jerry

i tried this edl workaround, could work, but with some limitations.
the edl txt file from vegas in/out time is only is only with seconds, have to find a way to convert to HH:MM:SS,00 (shoud not be a big problem)
the edl from the script menue is completely different, with HH:MM:SS,00 but i am not able to import this in a spreadsheet, because there is no real sperator between the fields.
the one thing i also wanted to edit in the spreadsheet is the active take name, for example change the active take name to the IN timecode of the clip, by just copy the timecode-in column to active take name.

the edl editing could work, but not as elegant as copy and pasting between "edit details window" and a spreadsheet.
or i think i will try to make a script for this purpose.....
(maybe it is not too difficult to add media to the timeleline with in/out time and the filename one after the other)

You could be able to do this successfully just by recording a Macro in Excel.
