"Also, not all monitors are able to adjust the colour rendition anyway, many simply do not have the control."

Actually, color controls on the monitor are not strictly necessary. I have calibrated laptop displays and cheap monitors with no color controls for friends and the color profile generated by the Spyder has made a night and day difference.

How do you get Windows to use the ICC Profile?
I've tried changing the ICC profile for the external monitor in Vegas 9/10 and it doesn't seem to work. I recall it's been dropped in V12 anyway.

Bob : "I recall it's been dropped in V12 anyway. . ."No, I've got VP11 installed and it is missing from and including VP11 Build 701 64bit, so it is missing from VP11 onwards.

Cheers

Grazie

I have found what was happening.
First, I use an Asus 3D monitor.
When I launch Vegas pro 12, the setting (cinema) of my monitor switches to "3D". With or without 3D preview.
When I close vegas pro, the 3D mode switches off. Back to cinema mode and it's corresponding icc profile.

How to work with a calibrated monitor :
1 Enter Nvidia control panel
2 disable 3D from there
3 start Vegas pro
4 enable 3D from Nvidia control panel

The monitor will enter the 3D mode ONLY if you preview your project on your "external monitor".
And switch the 3D mode off as soon as you leave this preview mode. Colors are calibrated

I have informed Sony - maybe a bug fix in a future realease.
I can now make color corrections in my projects with this trick.

Nick,

Vegas Pro 11 does retain my own color profile, also with level conversion enabled.

Piotr

PS What I like with the new VP11 preview is that - even if you launch Vegas with the secondary monitor(s) off - you can turn it/them on any time, and they'll appear in the Preview Device Prefs drop-down list ready to be picked and used. Previously, you had to start Vegas with the external monitor active, or you couldn't use it at all.

Nick, perhaps I should be more clear:

- with previous versions, the drop-down list on the Display Properties dialog window contains all the .icm files I have on my system, but choosing one doesn't have any effect on secondary display's color

- with VP11, I apply my color profile in Windows (outside Vegas), and VP11 preview will retain it - whether I engage sRGB->cRGB or not.

I hope I'm clear now :)
