Edit, save, edit, save...crash, reload and repeat

I'm working on a 360 view video using 960x480 pixel proxy files created by Handbrake.  The original files are Kodak SP360 4K clips, combined using their stitching software---3840x1920 pixels.  They are more-or-less quicktime files which even Vegas 13 couldn't handle so I use Handbrake to create proxies and the final clips used when I replace the proxies.

I made a first pass, end-to-end, edit this morning and rendered to a 1440x720 file for review in Kolor Eyes.  It was too long, so tonight I made another pass trimming each clip by 4 to 6 seconds, or more, and moving things around the time line.  Every 2 to 5 edits Vegas 14 would crash while I was viewing the result (not during the edit itself)...sometimes prompting me for an error report, sometimes not.  At first the errors seemed to accumulate to the point I could not view anything without it crashing.  I rebooted and got through the edits by saving after each edit and loading the saved file---not the autosaved file---after it crashed.

This was a very reliable workflow in Vegas 13.  Heaven knows what's going to happen when I try to swap the proxies for the larger files.

Really frustrated with this new version.  Is anyone from Magix reading this?  Is there any hope of a stable update anytime soon?  I paid a lot of money for this update and have yet to see any reason to use it.

Added music and titles, with a couple more crashes in the process, and am about to try the proxy substitution.

Proxy substitution actually went fine, whew.  So it appears playback while editing is the main problem.

Installed the latest update (201) and am trying another edit. No improvement. Crashed on the 5'th clip in. Going to have to start over in version 13.

What a waste of money, so far. Magix, anybody home?

Try set DRAM to 0, hope helps minimizing the crashes.

I don't understand,  what is it about your workflow that causes vegas to crash?  Reading the proxy file????  Presumably it doesn't crash on every kind of file?  Got to isolate the variables!

Simply adding clips to the timeline, apparently. After adding and trimming a few clips it hangs and I have to restart.

V13 has no such problem. The project I was working on this morning crashed on the 5'th clip. I started over with V13, completed my edits (21 clips), and am rendering now with no crashes.

I will check the DRAM settings in 13 and 14, thank you.

There are lots of things to try in this post: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/

Try set DRAM to 0, hope helps minimizing the crashes.

Is there any evidence that that helps general stability (not just rendering stability)? If so I'll add it to that FAQ post.

My project just finished rendering, so I checked...V13 had the DRAM set to 0, V14 had it set to 200.

I set V14 to DRAM=0, opened the crashing project and successfully added 4 or 5 clips. This is promising! I have another video to edit, so will start with V14 and report back in a day or two.

Thank you.

It took a couple of days to stitch my clips, but I finished up today and edited my video in V14. Apparently setting the DRAM to 0 did the trick---no crashes at all.

Thanks again.
