Edit Visible Button Set button position on Event

T-Co wrote on 10/13/2023, 8:44 PM

I have recently upgraded from Vegas Pro 18 to 21, and it appears that you can enable or disable the Event Headers in the "..." button next to the "fx" button per each event (formerly the "hamburger" button I believe). I think the default is now that the Event Headers are off, and with that being the case, the "fx" and whatever other buttons are selected for your Visible Button Set will then appear at the lower right corner of each Event. Enabling the Header moves them to the top right of the Event, but it also leaves less room on the Event to display a waveform or video preview image. However, I am quite used to those buttons in the upper right corner, so I keep clicking them by accident.

In short, I'm wondering if there is a way to set it so that the buttons will appear in the upper right rather than lower right corner of the Event while the Event Header is disabled. It's a minor issue, but I like the space allowed without the header and would prefer to have the best of both worlds if possible.

@T-Co - Of course. I'd like all sorts of things. However, maybe try this trick, as a quick Keyboard Keystroke to Swap from UPPER to LOWER position, do again and it reverts:

CTRL+SHIFT+M

Using @Grazie 's suggestion, flipping between 'header on' and 'header off' shows that the header does not supplant/overwrite the top area of the video image; rather, the header just reduces the size of the video image to the area below the header. Therefore, another option is to increase the size of the video track so that the image height with 'header on' is the same as occurs with 'header off' with the smaller track height.

It is interesting to note that with 'header off', the event name and event length (if selected) do in fact mask (overwrite) the top L & R corners of the video image

@Dexcon - Oooo.. I like your adaptation! I feel a Macro coming on that'll be mapped to my CSP:

1 - Reduce/Increase Track Height

2 - Swap Track Butons ON/OFF

A nice Saturday Morning Project.

@T-Co said: "... so I keep clicking them by accident."

Have you considered turning them all off and just accessing everything through the "hamburger " bar?

Thanks for the suggestions!

I will most likely just leave the Event Headers on and deal with it as I did before. I just kind of liked the extra space shown without them and wondered if there was a switch or something to move the buttons to the top corner as they were before. It just seems like wasted real estate with the waveform/preview covered for the entire top of the Event.

It's not a critical issue by any means, I just visually liked having the Headers off, though I'll choose my preferred button placement over that for now. If at any point they decide to create an option to choose where you want the buttons to appear on each Event, that would be ideal. But I'm not upset just keeping the old settings that I'm used to for the time being.
