Editing a peice of video and good capture cards.

I just purchased Vegas Video along with a Dazzle USB Digital Capture device. The picture appears "boxy" and pixelated can anyone recomend an external device
with audio/video ins for capturing with good or better quality.
How do I edit a specific peice of video? In the trimmer?-it's kind of tricky- any methods that work for you nice folks?

I can't help with the Dazzle as I'm strictly OHCI DV.

I'm more of a timeline editor myself. Capture the whole tape, drop it on the timeline, split it and delete what I don't want.

But I'm not sure this is the _best_ way. Just seems easier with the graphic feedback of the timeline.
