Editing AVCHD Audio

I have VMS Platinum Pro 9.0b. I have a problem editing the voice track of m2ts clips imported into VMS. The clips are imported with stereo sound. When I ungroup the voice track from a video clip and select 'Open in Sound Forge' I get error messages saying the file is an unsupported format and filename.m2ts could not be opened.

If I select "open copy in Sound Forge' I can edit the copy that can then be pasted into the voice channel after the original is removed. The voice track is then grouped with the video.

Why can't I open the track in Sound Forge rather than going through the copy routine?

Because .m2ts is a brand new format (comperatively), and SoundForge is a separate team that doesn't work closely with the Vegas guys, and so the new formats are not yet supported.

It's the same thing for other kinds of software and formats too. You need to wait for a format to mature before you can use it, which is why many businesses still use old technologically, but trusted solutions.

AVCHD audio is recorded as Dolby AC-3, which the studio version of Sound Forge does'nt support, but the full version does....

Many thanks. I am happy that I have a work around for the problem. I thought I must have been missing something.
