Editing lag

Hey all,ive been using movie studio 12 suite and while most of the time it works fine now and again I get what I call editing lag.I can edit something and then in the preview window it starts lagging on playback and yet other times it does not.
Ive made sure there are no programs running in the background and gone from good preview to draft but the lag will still happens.

Is there any quick fixes for this ? (yes I have the latest version :P )

I should have mentioned its the 64 bit version and I had 8gb memory and a decent graphics card.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?

Have you ensured that your Movie Studio project settings are matched to this media?

Are you running a quad core processor on your computer?

I've found when this happens to me, changing the preview setting to Draft/Quarter, then back to wherever i had it before (i usually use Preview/Full), the preview comes right back up to full speed.

Of course, this assumes your computer is powerful enough to handle the source material you have. But since you say it usually works, i'll assume you do.

I suppose your camera produces mov files (not mod files, as you typed).

Not all mov files are equal. It is just a name. My 6 year old system runs my Canon 550D mov files just fine, while it chokes on my Nikon V1 mov files. This is because these files are compressed differently, while Vegas is optimized to handle canon movs.
My trick is to transcode the Nikon mov files with Lightroom. The output files are the same in size and quality, but for some reason, now Vegas also handles them fine. It is, of course, time consuming to transcode...
