Unfortunately the QT plugin got broken in the latest VMSP17 Build 221. My experience is that VMS will open some mov files using other codecs. But if QT is needed no luck!

EDIT: Actually it was the previous build 204 that broke it.

Is there a plugin or patch that can fix this?

Enabling the Quicktime was necessary, but I also had to download the Quicktime Alternative codec plugin. The article and link are located at:

Unfortunately the Quicktime Alternative plugin didn't work for me with VMSP17 Build 221. My old 'mov' files that need QT still won't open with QT activated in Deprecated Features. But they are okay in VMSP16.

It appears using the alternative plugin doesn't get around whatever was broken in VMSP17 Build 204.
