Editing mpg audio?

On some projects, I would like to edit the audio and have the edited audio replace the original in the video project. I've tried two different audio editors (acid pro and goldwave), and although they let me edit it, they don't save it back to mpg format, and I can't figure out (it's probably too easy lol) how to replace the audio in a Vegas project with a wav file. Is this possible? Maybe if I add a second audio stream and mute the one associated with the video?

Me clueless here...

What do you mean by "save it back to mpg format"? Do you mean mp-3? To "replace" something's audio in Vegas is simple.

1) place your origional video/audio on timeline.
2) on another track add the new audio.
3) delete/edit your "old" audio so your "new" audio is the way you want it.
4) play and enjoy. :)

My sound editor of choice right now is Goldwave. I can open the mpg audio stream in it, but it will NOT save it in that format, so no auto back and forth from Vegas. So I suppose I just save as a PCM wave instead, and use the wav instead of the audio in the mpeg stream in vegas. No prob, & thanks for the advice.
