Editing on external monitor

I have a Dell XPS 13 laptop running Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17. When I drag the editing window to my external monitor, the resolution seems very low. Do I need to get a 4K monitor to edit on external monitor?

Make sure the setting of the preview window is not set to "half" or "quarter" but to "auto" or "full".

Thanks, but I’m not talking about the preview window resolution. I’m talking about the resolution of the entire editing window. I would like to use an external monitor for all this editing (ie importing video files, etc), but the font seems too large, and everything doesn’t fit. The fonts look good on the laptop screen, but it’s only 13”, so I would rather use the. 27” external monitor.
