No, you can't edit PAL video using an NTSC monitor.

There is a LOT more to creating a "film look" than just using 25 fps. There is the matter of film grain, emulsion blur, gamma and perhaps most importantly, lighting your video using film techniques. Shooting PAL for an NTSC production in order to get the "film look" is NOT the way to go.

If you really want to get a "film look" to your video the best way to achieve the goal is to use a plug-in called "FilmFx" from www.BigFX.com. It will simulate a 3:2 pulldown, film color curves and most everything necessary to convince your audience that it was actuall shot on film. They support After Effects and a lot of other NLE software, but not Vegas.

Thanks. I've been shooting film for years (16 and 35mm) so I know how to light and compose for the "film look". I like the "frame" mode of my NTSC camcorder which adds a bit of flicker to motion, and I thought that a 25fps frame mode might look even better.

I thought that maybe Vegas would be able to preview any frame rate via the external monitor feature.
