Editing Problem

lordkalel wrote on 1/3/2000, 1:42 AM
I am trying to use Sound Forge 4.5 to edit my tracks
individually in Vegas Pro. After editing is complete. I
save the file within Soundforge and switch back to Vegas
Pro. Vegas Pro automatically updates the tracks but when I
play back the tracks, the newly edited tracks are now
offset and out of sync with the other tracks. I have to
manually put each track back in sync with the others. This
is getting old fast. Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Are you sure that in editing your tracks in SF 4.5, you aren't
changing the timing of the tracks or position of elements within
them, relative to each other?

I haven't seen anything like this. Sorry.

By any chance, could the editing be done by Vegas ?

I have used Sound Forge XP 4.5 to edit Vegas Pro tracks and have not
had this problem.

Thanks Charles, Rick & Michael for replying.

I tried editing Vegas elements in Soundforge 4.5 again using
completely different and much smaller wav files on each track. I did
not have the problem with these. I did however, experience the same
problem when going back to my current *.veg project. Keep in mind
that I tried editing with the lock on each track both on and off.
I am still able to correct the offset of each edited file by using
the Edit Details window. I did notice that once I changed the start
time in the Edit Details window, I was not able to set it back to the
original start point. Now I seem to have two problems. I looked in
the hard copy and the Adobe Acrobat (pdf) manual and could not find
any info on the Edit Details window. Am I missing something?

Thanks again,
Kal-El

I'm having a similar, but slightly different problem. I'm finding
that when I record into an event (single takes or multiple takes)
that for longer events (the problem doesn't occur on shorter events)
that the entire event seems to be offset and out of sync from the
other tracks. I'm having to realign tracks by hand which is getting
very old very fast. I'm not experiencing any dropouts our glitches.
The entire take is offset.
Kel_El: What version of Vegas are you using (original, ver a, ver
b)? What is your system set up?
Sonic Foundry developers: This is a new problem for me that started
occuring after upgrading to ver b? Was something "fixed" that could
have caused this? Please help me, I'm aligning vocals to other
tracks using headphone bleed - a reeeaaalll pain.

I was having a similar problem in verions 1 and 1a, until the tech
support for my Lexicon Core2 card helped me figure it out: are you
muting or soloing other tracks while you are overdubbing? For some
reason this causes an offset of the newly recorded track.

Hopefully this will be fixed in an upcoming release. I find that if I
overdub after I've applied most of my effects to the playback tracks,
my computer sometimes skips when I try to record. The easiest way to
alleviate this is to solo only the tracks I need to hear. Since this
isn't an option in the current version of vegas, I need to save the
settings of the more CPU intensive effects and then delete them from
the bus, then add them again when done recording. A little annoying.

I know your problem
Whats happening is you cut away or deleated the start of a track, and
Vegas shifts the file over to were the start was before you did the
edit.We do this to cut down the Vegas session file size.Try this
place a marker a the nearest measure, resize the start of the track to
that marker zoom in to make sure that you don't cut off the beginning
of sound.hit ctrl+E to take you into Sound Forge you will see that
the part you need is black, move your mouse over to the right side
edge and left click hold an move it to the left all the way to the
start ( do not do this if you have other audio to the left because it
will be deleted.hit the delete key save it close out SF and resize
the start to the left and move the track back to the marker. You can
do the same thing to the end of a file.im not a good typer.
Hope this helps

Actually I am muting a lot of tracks when I encounter this. I'll see
if this is related.
