EDL Convert 4 and Vegas Pro 8

Just tried exporting an XML with the included XML Export script from EDL Convert 4.
I've done this before with Vegas 5, 6 and 7 but with Vegas Pro 8 I got an error message indicating ...

"C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 8.0\Script Menu\= Export Xml to EDL Convert =.js(490) : Variable 'Markers' has not been declared"

I don't know if this is a bug relating to Vegas 8 or some other fault on my system.

Has anyone had success exporting an EDL Convert XML with Vegas Pro 8?

newhope - I have run into issues with EDL exports from Vegas 8 to EDL Convert (then to OMF/AAF/OpenTL), but I haven't seen that error yet. Sounds like a problem processing markers - is this an error on export from Vegas, or on import into EDL Convert?

The error report is from Vegas. The actual XML export does not proceed at all.

The way Markers work has changed in the scripting for VP8 from the way it worked in previous versions.

This caused a number of tried and tested scripts to need to be rewritten slightly to work correctly under VP8 and I'd guess that this is the cause of the problem you are having with the Export XML script.

I expect that CuiBono have already addressed the problem but I can't see any reference to it on their website - I'd drop them an email and see if they have an updated pair of scripts yet.

In the past the EDLConvert XML scripts were just slightly modified versions of the Sony-supplied ImportXML.js and ExportXML.js scripts - if I recall correctly the only actual difference was that the timecode format was changed to nanoseconds rather than just inheriting the ruler format from the project. But I notice that in VP8 the old .js import and export XML scripts have been replaced by new .cs versions. It might just be that if you made a copy of these new scripts with the timebase changed to nanoseconds that they might solve the problem you're experiencing. But it might be that there is more that needs changing and CuiBono are the people who will know for certain.

Mark

I had reported the problem to CuiBono prior to my first post here yesterday.

I thought I'd check and see if anyone else had experienced the problem as well.

Happily I find here that someone like you, with a detailed knowledge of the software, will usually reply.

Thanks for doing so. Now I guess I'll wait for Axel, or someone else at CuiBono, to reply.

Axel from Cui Bono replied indicating they are awaiting a copy of Vegas Pro 8 to test the problem and will get back with an answer as soon as they have one.

Sony, it might be nice to supply this to them as EDL Covert is an utterly indispensible way of importing and exporting to and from Vegas. particularly as AAF is so unreliable a format at present.
