EDL nightmare

Hi fellow Vegas users, I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on how to resolve a major issue I am having with a project I am working on.

Last week we had a production team come in to shoot a few wedding bands here in NYC for a demo. We had 3 Blackmagic 6K cameras and we were shooting in-camera and also doing a live switch recording with this device

https://www.adorama.com/cdapollo.html

The Apollo creates a EDL ( .EDL, FC7P XML, FCPX XML)

We need to see the cuts from each camera on the timeline so we can make changes

When I try to import the EDL file into Vegas it does not see .EDL files so I changed it to .TXT

Once I did that the footage loaded up (I had to relink the footage)

Now I can see the cuts on the timeline but the timeline is not working correctly

The footage is all frozen on a frame and will not play

This is the EDL file

Any ideas on how to make this work?

I recently tried to use an EDL in Pro Version 16 and had the same problem. If this is the only EDL you have, you could easily do this manually by reading the EDL and matching it by hand. But if you have a bunch, I don't have a solution for you. Vegas does not like to play with others.

It was a 4-day shoot so we have many EDL files

Having to put together a new multicam edit for each set now in Vegas sort of makes doing the live cut in the Apollo a waste of time.

I am running the most recent build of Vegas 18

Does that imply you also have XML files? The fcp7 xml should work if you do.

PS Also check timecode from source files is coming through to Vegas...and project frame rate maches.

I do have folders that say FCP 7 and FCP X with XLMs but when I open it up in Notepad+ the files don't seem to have the in and out point for the cuts, all it loads up is a single file. The .EDL files are the only one with the cuts info as far I can tell.

FCPXML file (The QSLS should be the line cut output with the EDL)

A-B-C-D are the individual cameras

Yeah, the XML doesn't seem to be right.

A fellow Vegas user on Reddit solved the timeline playback issue

From

sotodefonk

"Looking the original EDL, I think i detected what the issue is. There is an option in vegas EDL's, that says "Looped", and since its not specified on your EDL, it imports as FALSE.

Dunno why, but even in my vegas 17, it still the same, if the loop isn't enabled, then it just displays the event as a static image. Maybe it's been a bug no one detected cuz it always loop files.

To fix it you could right-click each event, go to properties then enable the Loop box. or you can simply select everything with Ctrl+A or with the selection tool, right click any event, then go to Switches>enable Loop."

I had to select all on the track then right-click select Add missing stream from selected event to get the audio tracks to appear.

Now the issue is that I am seeing cuts but they seem to be out of sync with the camera footage

The individual camera files have the time-of-day timecode embedded

This is what we are trying to accomplish

To import the EDLs from the multi-cam cuts done in the Apollo switcher/recorder on the day of the shoots

Have the multi-cam cut appear on the timeline with the camera cuts

Be able to convert these EDL cuts tracks into a multicam track so we can see each individual camera in the Vegas preview monitor and view the camera choices we made the day of the shoot while watching it in multicam mode on the Vegas preview monitor and then be able to make new camera angle choices if needed.
