Effects Are Being Evil

If this has been covered (and it probably has), please forgive me and let me know what to do a search for.
I'm trying to warm up a shot that was too blue. If I add any effect (color correction, etc), the skin tones immediately become very "blocky" or pixelated. I've not notced this on any other clips, so I'm baffeled.
I can put up some before and afters if anyone is curious.
The shot is just of a little boy against foliage. No direct sunlight on the boy, but there is some in the BKG. It mainly seems to affect the skin areas, but since the rest is plants and such, it's a little hard to tell.
What can I try to fix this?
Thanks much and happy new year to one and all! -mjr

Are you seeing this after actually rendering the clip? Or is it just your preview that is becoming blocky? If it is after a render, what format are you rendering to? What quality setting?

Something I noticed is that this problem is most pronounced on my external NTSC monitor. It looks like the resolution is at Draft, though I'm pretty sure that that is not the case - especially since the rest of the video (8 other clips) look swell. -mjr
