Effects stopped working

Yesterday I installed a Java update. After installing I got a message to install a java tool that helps locate old versions and insures that you have the correct version installed. Against my better judgement I installed it and now none of my new blue effects nor ANY of the sony vegas effects are working. They show as being applied but no effect is visible in the preview window. I am stumped on this one.

Have you tried doing a system restore?

Have you clicked the "split screen view" button above the Vegas preview screen? If yes, deselect it.

For some reason the last system restore date is almost a year old so don't want to go back that far.

Eureka! You saved the Day! Thanks a million.

This comes up so often that Vegas really should have a way of more clearly indication that the FX Bypass button has been pushed, perhaps the button could turn red or something.

John, agreed. Vegas already has MUTE and YELLOW warnings for audio. As well as your suggestion, how about the actually Event FX Icon Turning RED from GREEN to bring it to our attention too? We are starting to see more PREVIEW Overlays, how about a flashing RED FX directly on the Preview Screen. Presently, and forever, having that wimpish apology for a "warning" is '90s Function-over-Form.

SCS, please comment.
