enclosing codec w/ project?

I am currently messing with the VV3 demo. When using "Render As", there is an export option for "NTSC DV", which I will assume is the same codec that VV3 uses to capture. When transferring an edit that was rendered with this codec, or any other Sonic Foundry codec for that matter, is it possible to enclose - and therefore distribute - the codec with the project when delivering it to broadcasters or others that may need to import my edit into another application? If so, what files would I need to enclose specifically? - Thank you.

From what i understand of what Sonic Foundry has said on the matter, you don't need to include the codec. While their new DV codec uses an improved (and therefore different) method to compress the data, the file that results is still a standard DV .avi file and can be read by any software that opens DV .avi files. I haven't had any trouble with anyone else being able to open files i've captured/rendered.

right. as long as you render to DV, you'll be able to read it as standard DV. this is why we can transfer the DV file to a camera or deck, and play it back without worrying about the camera or deck having the right codec. cool huh? :)

Thank you for your replies... I would certainly expect the ability to export back to a camera or other DV device, but what about Avid, Discreet edit or Media 100 boxes? Am I to understand that like Indeo, Cinepak and Intel codecs, that the same NTSC DV codec will be present in these other NLE's? Is this codec in DirectX 8.1 or something? Is it, or a variation of it, present even in systems using proprietary hardware codecs? Should I just get out more and stop fretting?
