Endless Loop

Does anyone know of an endless loop tape for Digital8 (8mm) or miniDV? I'd like to be able to use cameras for other things besides recording and they only work as long as the tape runs and won't work without a tape inserted. If I could get an endless loop tape the camera would simply continue recording over the same tape (like on audio). I can't seem to find anything like this using a simply Google search. Unfortunately, if I am not recording my cameras switch themselves off after a few minutes.

What do you want to do with it? I run my TRV900 Mini-DV camera with no tape to convert 8MM Movies to Digital, and as long as it is plugged into A/C and not on batteries, it will not go into shutdown mode.

All the camcorders i've used will stay on if there's no tape inserted. However, the annoying thing with most of them is that if you want to use the camcorder as a camera, the microphone is shut off unless a tape is inserted. So, if i need to pick up audio, i have to put a tape in, but then it will auto-shutoff unless it's recording. Grrrrrrrrr.

I have *no* evidence for this, but it's just an idea: have you tried using a tape *plastic case* without tape inside ? Will it fool the Camcorder into thinking there is a tape within ?

Probably not... tape transports have sensors to detect the presence and tension of the tape, and will error if outside the specs.

Sometimes you can leave the cassette door open and the camera will stay on. I'm sure that is not great for dust protection, so if you think there might be much dust in the room I would try and cover the opening.
