[ENHANCEMENT] Refresh Proxy

alifftudm95 wrote on 8/31/2021, 5:27 AM

There is a problem when you create a proxy for Nested sequences or VEGFX file in VEGAS Pro timeline.

Let say the VEGFX project in kinda heavy cuz its a 4K media, you right click and select proxy, the media will play very well at a pixelated preview, which I don't mind.

But if you make any changes on the VEGFX project, those changes will not reflect in the proxy clip till you set the preview quality at least on Good Auto. Seems like the proxy will just burn the data into SFVP0 file thingy.

To overcome this, I delete the SFVP0 file and re-create the proxy again. Would be great if VEGAS Team allow editor to re-create proxy to update the nested/vegfx file.

I never try VEGAS Effects 3 new proxy feature. I'm not sure how impactful that would be when editing in VEGAS Pro.

That's why I never use proxy.

If I'm correct, the proxy exists only on preview/draft quality which drops many fine things away, maybe just, including the refreshing of your change.

I'd rather use good-quality in quater-resolution for the preview, but with original source materials.

VEGAS Pro approach in Proxy have it's own pros/cons.

The pros, you don't need to transcode the media to another smaller file like 720p res. You save more disk space and it's way lot faster.

The cons in the other hand, the proxy is just an "illusion", means any modification won't brought in the new data to the SVP0 file. The quality in preview auto is extremely "pixelated".

I would like to see mixture of both world. Actual Batch proxy like Adobe Media Encoder and VEGAS Pro current SVP0 style proxy's.

I think the best option is to actually render the Vegas Effects project and import that into Vegas.

Vegas Effects proxy, pre-renders, timeline cache... it helps while editing in Vegas Effects but it doesn't seem to translate to Vegas Pro.

At least that's my experience.
