Envelope Or Splits/Cuts for Two Camera Shoot

I just completed a two camera shoot of a theatre production and I really want to do a fairly large number of cuts (about 100 or so...it's a two hour show). I have done two camera shoots before but I am looking for ways to have an efficient work flow.

BTW I have Vegas Studio 6.

Here's the plan so far:
Video track for Camera 1(the main camera)
Video track for Camera 2 (The source of the cuts)
Audio track from Camera 1
Audio Track from sound board (to be blended with the sound from camera)

One method would be to mark and split the movie where I want the cuts to be and then drag the clip to the track above Camera 1. I then have to apply fades to the cut.

This is the way I have done it in the past and it was tedious to manually add the fades to each cut. It also was somewhat confusing how to edit the cuts later if I wanted to change the place where the cut occured.

The other method I may try is to place Camera 2 over camera 1 and add a Composite Level Envelope to Camera 2 to fade in and out at certain points.

Anybody have comments or Recommendations. ?

The compositing envelope method helps you maintain sync because you won't ever have little pieces lying around that might accidentally get moved. However, i think it's just as tedious setting the envelope points as it is using cuts and fades. It's also very important to make sure your envelope points are at 0% or 100% to avoid disasterously long render times.

Using the first method you outlined it's very easy to change the cut locations. Simply drag the edge of the cut clip to either side to adjust the timeline. This will not change sync between the two cameras.

So even though I may split/cut a 5 second piece and move it to another track it is just a reference to the original track, and really contains the entire event...correct ?

Are there any shortcuts to add a fade to the clips I move to another track or do I just have to grab each corner and drag ?

Yes, that is correct.

Hmmmm. There are auto-fades for audio when splitting. I don't see anything to automatically add fades to video. Sorry.
